The Shankaracharya, reportedly a Congress supporter, recently stoked controversy after he described Sai Baba as a Muslim ascetic and he found no mention in the Shastras and Vedas. He said the Muslims did not revere the mystic as much as Hindus did. Protests broke out over his remarks in Varanasi.
Shankaracharya even went on to say that Sai Baba was a human being and not a God and hence shouldn't be worshiped by Hindus. He also gave a call to remove Sai's photographs from Hindu temples.
Dwarka Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati is in trouble over his adverse remarks against Shirdi Sai Baba. This time he has been asked by a local court in Vadodara to be present before it on August 26. Baroda Bar Association president Nalin Patel had lodged a court complaint against Shankaracharya on July 12 for passing insulting remarks on Sai Baba of Shirdi.
